The Bills are relevant for at least one week after a surprising beat down of the Chiefs at Arrowhead last week, and will face another AFC West team, the Raiders, who managed to suck less than Denver and also come into the game 1-0.
Buffalo faces a similar test that they did last week: a strong running game, but a questionable quarterback. The Bills have some reasons for hope going into tomorrow's game, as Oakland is not a powerhouse by any means, they will be missing one of their top wide receivers, and West Coast teams traditionally do terribly when traveling across the country. Add in the fact that it's a home opener and this Bills team looks like they have something to prove (which is a refreshing change from the "whatever" attitude they've seemed to have for years), and it's looking good. The Bills seem to remember that they're probably not as good as last week may suggest, and that they have a lot of work to do.
I am worried about this game, because when it seems like there's a game the Bills should win, they either blow it, or let it get way too close for comfort. Oakland does have a strong running game, and while Buffalo did do OK against the run last week, they still gave up a couple big runs, and Kansas City was forced to abandon the run because they fell behind early. If the game stays close, Oakland will more than likely keep the ball on the ground, and if the run defense hasn't improved enough, that could spell trouble.
The early going will dictate how the game goes. If the Bills jump out quickly like they did last week, they could cruise to victory, as I don't think Oakland has the firepower through the air, especially since they no longer have Zach Miller. If the offense can't get going early, or if something goes wrong, then it could be a very close game that will hinge on one or two big plays, and those tend to not go Buffalo's way (although to be fair, they haven't gone Oakland's way too often recently either).
I am predicting a 30-17 Bills win, and there will be much rejoicing. They will be a sexy pick to surprise the league...
...until they get mauled by New England week three.
